What are Industrial Valve Types?

Valves can be used to control gas and liquids. A valve is needed to control the flow of water in your kitchen sink. A separate valve allows propane gas to enter a gas stove’s burners. Industrial valves, unlike domestic ones, are designed to withstand high fluid or gaseous pressures and perform reliably in difficult conditions. To keep their systems running smoothly, water, oil, and gas utilities rely on heavy-duty industrial valves.

Many industrial valves have sections that are cast. Eagle Group and other machine shops provide the necessary components to manufacture the valves. These are the most common types of valves used in industries around the world.

Valves for the Inlet/Outlet Gate

A metal gate within a gate valve’s housing can be raised or lower to open or close a channel. The channel can flow freely if the gate is raised; if it is lowered, the channel will be blocked.

These valves are used for many years. They are also known as isolation, on/off or isolation valves. Butterfly valves are often mass-produced because they are easy to use and don’t have complex components. However, their design makes them difficult to use. Gate valves are most commonly found in the water sector.

Butterfly Valves

A butterfly valve is a channel that has a pivoting paddle attached at the centre. The paddle, which is disc-shaped, can spin to block or open the passageway.

The butterfly valve is another type of isolation valve. It allows for high throughput, but has very limited control over flow rate. You can position the paddle perpendicularly to the flow so that they don’t create much resistance when open. Although butterfly valves are more convenient than gate valves for remote actuator control, they are often limited to high flow rates.

Ball Valves

A ball valve is composed of a housing made from metal and a ball that has holes. The ball rotates when the valve is activated. This aligns the perforation with the channel, increasing flow rate, and bringing the valve housing into alignment.

Recent innovations in ball valve design such as segmented valves have made it possible to improve flow regulation. Modern ball valves allow for greater volume and can be controlled electronically or manually.

Globe Valves

Globe valves are designed to regulate the flow of liquid and gas. They include an S-shaped channel, a horizontally placed valve component, which can be raised or decreased.

A globe valve is the best choice for flow regulation. This is why they are so often used as control valves. A globe valve’s shape facilitates regulation. Many valve bodies also allow for the use of interchangeable inner sections. This allows the central orifice to be adjusted as required. Ball valves can provide 30-40% more flow than globe valves. However, globe valves restrict flow more.
